Sims hoping for back-to-back wins

After securing his first race win of the 2008 Formula Renault UK season last Saturday, MSA British Race Elite star Alexander Sims cannot wait for the championship to resume at Oulton Park in Cheshire just over a week from now, 26th/27th July, as he aims to put further pressure on series leader Adam Christodoulou.Lifting the 20-year-old Manor Competition racer into second place in the driver standings on overall scores, his richly deserved and long overdue victory during the first of three races staged last weekend was backed up with a further podium visit – his seventh of the 2008 campaign.Providing a timely fillip as the season enters its crucial final six rounds, Wansford based Alexander should thrive at the picturesque Oulton Park Island Circuit next weekend during the 15th and 16th rounds of the championship as the track is widely regarded as one of the country’s most demanding motor racing challenges.Although he has been on the podium at six of the seven race meetings contested so far this season, it was the elusive first 2008 win he craved more than anything. Now his second career car racing victory is firmly under his belt, Alexander plans for more.“After our win at Snetterton I’m fully focused on achieving more of the same at Oulton and I think we should be in good shape to make that happen”, said the Cambridgeshire sensation, “We have suffered a bit with a lack of power from the engine compared to some of the others at the front but hopefully that will be sorted out in time.“Oulton isn’t a circuit I would say is totally engine dependant anyway, it’s quite technical and our pace has been good there in testing so I’m confident we should be able to fight for podiums and, more importantly, wins. Oulton Park is a nice track to drive but all of the circuits are pretty much the same to me – they all have straights and corners!”Alexander added: “The team is continuing to work really hard and I think we’ve all been buoyed by the Snetterton results. If we keep working at it, trying to find every last 10th of a second we can, then I’m sure we’ll be quick and celebrating more good results.”Free practice ahead of the eighth race meeting of the 2008 Formula Renault UK season will take place next Friday, 25th July. Qualifying for round 15 is timetabled to start at 08.30 on Saturday, 26th July, with the round 16 session set to follow at 13.45.Both races will take place on Sunday, 27th July, with round 15 scheduled to begin at 12.00 and round 16 set to follow at 16.50. The second of the day’s races is expected to be screened live on Freeview, cable and digital satellite channel ITV4.Provisional 2008 Formula Renault UK Championship Driver Standings (after Rd14):1st Adam Christodoulou, 338pts; 2nd Alexander Sims, 309pts; 3rd Riki Christodoulou, 308pts
