Snetterton Boost Targeted By Hillspeed

Hathersage based Formula Renault BARC Championship squad Hillspeed aims to bounce back strongly from a disappointing non-score during round seven at Croft a fortnight ago when the series resumes at Snetterton in Norfolk this Saturday, 9th August. While the first race of the Croft weekend, round six, proved to be highly successful for Oman’s Ahmad Al Harthy with a career best second place finish, the other encounter was one to forget for the team with all three of its cars being wiped out at the first corner.Having been on top of the championship during the early part of the season, and with Menasheh Idafar still inside the top three of the FR2000 Class driver standings as the series heads to Snetterton for rounds eight and nine, Hillspeed knows it has the pace and ability to record consistent podium success next weekend.“Obviously we’re looking forward to Snetterton, we’ve put in some good mileage there in testing so I’m sure we’ll be strong at the weekend”, commented team principal Richard Ollerenshaw, “As we saw at Croft though, and also the meeting before at Oulton Park, you do need some luck as well as pace and we haven’t had the good fortune lately.”Recording four podiums from the opening quartet of races, 17-year-old Idafar has stunned the competition during only his second season of single-seater action in the UK while Al Harthy has tapped into a rich vein of form recently leading up to his first podium of the campaign at Croft.Team-mate Michael Lyons was incredibly unfortunate not to have recorded a career best Formula Renault BARC finish himself at Croft last time out as he certainly had the pace to achieve a top six result. Nonetheless, the 17-old Essex driver is focused on an impressive run next Saturday at one of his most local circuits. In preparation for the upcoming event at Snetterton, Hillspeed has been in test action over the last couple of weeks with Idafar and Al Harthy. Lyons, meanwhile, has been honouring other commitments in the historic racing scene, mainly the hugely popular Silverstone Classic event which took place at the Northamptonshire venue just over a week ago.Lyons did, however, join Idafar and the British-born Bahraini’s younger brother Ezra during a general test session at Silverstone on Friday, 1st August, an outing which saw Menasheh make only his second ever outing at the wheel of a full 2008 specification Formula Renault UK car – the first run coming the day before at Donington Park. This Saturday’s action at Snetterton will be very important for all three of Hillspeed’s regular Formula Renault BARC runners and team boss Ollerenshaw is keeping his fingers crossed the squad’s fortunes will turn around in Norfolk. He added: “Menasheh and Ahmad clearly have the pace to be on the podium at Snetterton, they’ve proven that. We just need to shake the bad luck off but I’m sure this weekend’s meeting will be a good one for all three of our guys. Mick has missed some test time with his historic commitments but hopefully all will go well – fingers crossed!”Qualifying for the eighth and ninth rounds of the Formula Renault BARC Championship at Snetterton, near Thetford, takes place at around 09.25 this coming Saturday, 9th August, with the first race timetabled to start at 12.00 and race two scheduled to get underway at approximately 15.30.Provisional 2008 Formula Renault BARC Championship Standings (after Rd7):=3rd Menasheh Idafar & Isa Yousif Mohammed, 48pts; 6th Ahmad Al Harthy, 34pts; 13th Michael Lyons, 8pts
