All-Spanish assault for Seville ...

SUPERLEAGUE FORMULA CAMPAIGN

Sevilla FC will have an all-Spanish assault for its Superleague Formula entry with ex-Spanish Formula 3 champ Borja Garcia and the Valencia-based race squad, GTA Motor, headlining their attack.

The driver and race team were unveiled in Seville this week where Garcia and GTA boss Domingo Ochoa met with the Sevilla playing squad and club President, José María del Nido.

25-year-old Garcia won the Spanish F3 crown in 2004 and has been a major contender in recent seasons in GP2 and World Series by Renault.

Found in 1994, GTA Motor is a leading team in the Spanish Formula 3 championship and has also proved to be highly successful in sportscars – finishing 2nd last year in the International GT Open Championship.

GTA Motor has already tasted victory twice this year with young Spanish driver Jaime Alguersuari.

Garcia initially tested the Superleague Formula prototype at the Monteblanco Circuit earlier this year and has driven the Sevilla car at recent tests in Barcelona and Vallelunga.

"I am very impressed with the car and really looking forward to the first race," Garcia said.

"They engine is very impressive and despite the car being quite big, it is actually very nimble.

“I will give my best knowing that's gonna be difficult due to the quality of the drivers and the high standard of the competition. I know that behind me will be the great family of the Sevilla fans and I want them to be proud of me.

"For a Spanish driver its great to drive for a Spanish team like Sevilla. The final race will be in Jerez that is not far from Sevilla. That is going to be a huge event - the last race, me as a Spanish driver with a Spanish team - that will be a major highlight for me."

Seviila FC President del Nido was delighted to confirm his club’s all-Spanish Superleague Formula assault.

“We wish you the best and hope you will drive the Sevilla car with success. Do not forget that you have the Sevilla badge in your car and you are driving our dreams to the victory,” he said.

Sevilla FC was announced as a Superleague Formula entry in January this year with the club’s colours unveiled for the fans prior to a one-all draw against Barcelona at home on February 9.

Sevilla FC will do battle against clubs from England (Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur), Scotland (Rangers), Italy (AC Milan and AS Roma), Portugal (FC Porto), Netherlands (PSV Eindhoven), Germany (Borussia Dortmund), Belgium (RSC Anderlecht), Switzerland (FC Basel), Greece (Olympiacos), Turkey (Galatasaray), UAE (Al Ain), Brazil (Flamengo and Corinthians) and China (Beijing Guoan).

The championship kicks off at the end of this month in the UK with the first race scheduled for Donington Park (August 30/31).The remainder of the Superleague Formula schedule includes Nurburgring (September 20-21), Zolder (October 4-5), Estoril (October 18-19), Vallelunga (November 1-2) and the series grand finale in Spain at the Jerez circuit (November 22-23).
