MSA British Drag Racing Championship

Round 4 - 4-7 September 2008, Santa Pod Raceway - FIA European Finals

Against all odds, half a drag race was completed at Santa Pod Raceway's FIA European Finals. Twenty-six Pro Modified racers from six countries watched the rain fall solidly for three days. Finally, at lunchtime on Sunday, the rain stopped and the organisers began a battle to compress a four-day event into a single afternoon. If rain had not returned at 7.30pm, it would have worked.

A single-shot qualifying session replaced the four originally scheduled. In this lottery atmosphere, MSA points leader Philip Englefield qualified 10th (7.139sec., 176.39mph) before losing his opening match to Germany's Norbert Kuno, with a better 6.841/209.11. Danny Cockerill narrowed the points gap on Englefield by racing one round further but, with closest challenger Andy Robinson out for the season, Englefield enters the National Finals (27-28 September) favoured to claim the crown.

The race was rained-off before the semi-final stage.

Top 5 qualifiers:

1. Roger Johansson (Sweden):  6.324sec. / 221.06mph

2. Urban Johansson (Sweden):  6.359 / 227.98

4. Robert Joosten (Netherlands):  6.389 / 228.78

5. Danny Cockerill (GB):  6.594 / 219.99
