GP2 Trident Monza Race 2 Report

#20 Mike Conway,  DNF

#21 Ho Pin Tung,   9th

Once again, Trident Racing was forced not to count on a well-deserved result despite the high potential shown on-track by the team`s Dallara cars, and once again, it happened due to external causes. In the second race of the weekend at Monza, on final round of the 2008 GP2 Main Series, Mike made an extremely powerful start, moving from 8th place, taken at the end of the opening lap, to 4th place by the end of lap 4. Mike was clearly the fasted man on-track when Lucas Di Grassi made a mistake at Roggia, outbraking himself and wrecking in the #20 Trident car. Ho Pin confirmed his outstanding talent at the start, getting back several spots just after the lights came off and ending up in 9th place. With the official season over, the upcoming break will be short: all the teams will be back on-track at the end of the month at Paul Ricard.

 Maurizio Salvadori, Team Owner

“I feel bad for how our day ended up, especially for Mike and his crew. We had a great car today, and the Briton had a solid chance to end up on the podium. I can`t say if he could have had a chance to win, but laptimes proved he was running really fast. Unfortunately, for the second time this season, Lucas Di Grassi deprived us of a potentially good result with a bad mistake, one of the ones you`d not expect to see at our levels. At this point, there`s not much we can do than start concentrating on 2009".

Ho Pin Tung

“The start was quite ok for me, but I lost some spots when one of the cars in front became unstable, forcing me to brake early at the first chicane. I also encountered small braking issues, but I reacted the best way I could, making my way to the top-10. Then another small error at Ascari didn`t penalize me: I just tried to stay clear from my rivals and followers".

Mike Conway

“The race started in the best possible way for me, as I quickly moved on Pantano and Maldonado. I kept a good pace, passing Buemi, Senna and Di Grassi without major problems. Then I felt a bump from behind at Roggia, finding myself in the runoff area. It`s just frustrating, to end up like this what could have become a successful day. A podium finish was in my frame, and it would have been really meaningful to all the team, since I could count on a competitive racecar since Friday. I have to put this weekend`s two races behind my shoulders, at least without having to blame myself or the team".
