TROPHIES & CHAMPIONS GALORE

The last Great & British Dunlop Motorsport Festival of 2008 ended on a high with all the core championships being decided on the final day of competition at the Rockingham Motor Speedway.

The first award to be won on the day went to Leyton Clarke, the young Vauxhall Corsa driver winning his class in the Dunlop Sport Maxx Cup race and with his Thorney Motorsport team-mate Simon Shaw winning the overall race it meant that title contender Martin Wallbank, was denied the privilege of being crowned champion, his third place finish not enough to land the crown. 

The Radical UK Cup campaign came to a dramatic conclusion with title contender Ross Kaiser crashing at high speed into the banking. Thankfully he walked away unhurt yet ended any hope he and Terence Woodward had of being crowned champions. Jamie Patterson, who ends the year as the top Supersport driver, won the race but second place was enough for Derek Johnston and Stuart Moseley to be crowned 2008 champions, a result which would have guaranteed them the crown even if Kaiser had finished the race. Earlier in the day Woodward and Kaiser took the spoils with Patterson’s second place ensuring he finished race one as top Supersport driver

Having led the overall standings for the duration of the campaign Martin Depper finally secured the 2008 Mini Challenge title scoring a second place finish in all three races at Rockingham. This was enough to guarantee the crown despite nearest rival Jack Stanford finishing ahead of him every time at Rockingham. In Club class, Craig Dawson won the first two races of the day but he was unable to complete the ha-trick when Josh Waddington roared to victory in the final encounter of the day
