(SPEEDWAY 1)POOLE will stage the New Year Classic for the first time on Sunday, January 4.Pirates bosses have won the race to stage the event after the loss of Newport following the sad passing of club owner Tim Stone.Pirates co-promoter Matt Ford said: "We're delighted to stage this event and we want to meet the high standards set by Tim at Newport. He is sadly missed."(SPEEDWAY 2)BEN Powell has been banned for the final two weeks of the season by the Speedway Control Bureau.Powell was involved in an incident with Keni Larsen during Scunthorpe's trip to Newcastle at the weekend.He has been sacked by the Scorpions with immediate effect and the SCB are to carry out a thorough investigation of the incident.SPEEDWAY CONTROL BUREAU PRESS RELEASENEWCASTLE v SCUNTHORPE; Sunday 12th October 2008.At the above Meeting, immediately following Heat 12, the Scunthorpe Rider, Ben Powell was involved in a very unsavoury incident with an opponent, Newcastle's Kenni Larsen.Following receipt of the Meeting Referee's Report and subsequently a DVD of the Incident, the SCB have in accordance with the Speedway Regulations today suspended Ben Powell's SCB Registration for a period of 15 days.This will allow time for a Disciplinary Tribunal to be convened.The SCB acknowledge the actions of the Scunthorpe Promotion, who have parted company with Powell. The Scunthorpe Promoter Rob Godfrey said: "Scunthorpe Speedway cannot, and will not, condone Ben Powell's actions and he is released with immediate effect.
