Darren Law Takes Top Five Finish in ALMS Season Finale

After a season of ups and downs, Porsche endurance racing specialist Darren Law finished 2008 on a high note taking a well earned fifth place in the Saturday running of the Monterey Sports Car Championships presented by Patron at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. Law was paired with season long teammate Seth Neiman in the team’s #44 Flying Lizard Motorsports Porsche GT3 RSR, and the duo tackled the extended format four hour American Le Mans Series season finale. Darren’s hard drive in the race would ensure him a 7th place finish in the championship despite having missed five races over the course of the season due to previous obligations.

The Laguna Seca race would see the Lizard’s #46 sister car take a 4th place finish at the checkered flag, putting two of the team’s cars in the top five. Although the #45 Flying Lizard Porsche ended up further down the finishing order, drivers Jorg Bergmeister and Wolf Henzler had already clinched the drivers’ championship at the Petit Le Mans event earlier in the month.

After Neiman’s qualifying run that placed him just outside the top ten on the technical and elevation filled 2.238 mile Laguna circuit with a lap of 1:26.704, Law jumped aboard the #44 for the start of the season ending event. Law would end up doing a double stint in the Flying Lizard Porsche and would eventually move his way up to as high as 3rd in the LMGT2 class before bringing the #44 into pit lane after two full hours in the car.

Neiman took over the #44 after Law pitted for tires and fuel and drove a full stint, keeping the car in the top ten throughout his drive. Law then took over for the final hour of the race. Law would again move forward and would take 6th place at the checkered flag. A post race inspection disqualified one of the LMGT2 class entries and eventually elevated the #44 to 5th place, giving Law his third top five finish with the team in 2008.

Darren Law Quote

"We had a really great race. Flying Lizard gave us a good car, and we were competitive all day. Unfortunately we got caught out by a couple of yellow flags which put us back a bit in the standings, but it was a great way to finish the season.

The Flying Lizard team had a great year as well. My teammates in the #45 car won the drivers’ championship, Flying Lizard won the ALMS team championship, and Porsche won the manufactures’ championship. You can’t ask for much more than that."
