Hillspeeds Winter Quartet

GAIN MORE MILES AT ROCKINGHAMRockingham International Super Sports Car Circuit played host to a Formula Renault filled test outing , Thursday, 23rd October, with Derbyshire squad Hillspeed enjoying a productive run with all four of its Winter Championship drivers.British-born Bahraini Menasheh Idafar, who remains with Hillspeed for his step up to Formula Renault UK from Formula Renault BARC during the upcoming 2008 winter series, enjoyed a very good run and ended the test within just a few 10ths of a second of the outright pace.Fellow Formula Renault UK runner Michael Lyons, who has also made the transition from BARC to UK specification with the Hathersage squad, had his first run in his contemporary single-seater since a hugely successful outing during the final event of the 2008 Historic Sports Car Club season at Silverstone last weekend.Hillspeed’s Formula Renault BARC pairing meanwhile, James Theodore and Immanuel Bryson-Haynes, both racked up more miles ahead of the winter campaign with Theodore continuing to impress – the young karting graduate having made his car racing debut during the final rounds of the main BARC series three weeks ago.For Bryson-Haynes, the 2008 Winter Championship will mark his first ever racing in single-seaters and at Rockingham yesterday he produced perhaps his best test run yet with an encouraging effort.“It was a good day all round for the team”, said Hillspeed’s Richard Ollerenshaw at the conclusion of his squad’s latest track outing, “Menasheh was very quick and even though the conditions weren’t all that good when he used new tyres, his times were still very competitive and not far away from the top at all.“Mick needed some time to get back into the driving style of the Renault having most recently been racing, and winning, in historics, but he put plenty of miles in and will have another couple of test runs next week.”He added: “James didn’t run new tyres but his times were just a fraction behind the sort of laps our lead drivers were doing at Rockingham during the main season. For Immanuel, the test was probably his best yet and he’s showing encouraging signs.”Just a week remains now until the commencement of the 2008 Formula Renault UK Winter Championship with rounds one and two taking place at Croft Circuit in North Yorkshire next Saturday, 1st November.Official pre-event testing will be held on Friday, 31st October, at the Croft-on-Tees venue while qualifying for rounds one and two will follow at 09.30 on Saturday, 1st November. The 16-lap races will begin at 11.10 and 13.45 respectively.
