Johnny Herbert Backs Wayne Boyd’s Bid

for F1 Dream

Music mixes with motorsport as entertainment entrepreneur joins forces with F1 winner

Ex-Formula One winning driver and current Speedcar series star Johnny Herbert will be aiding up-and-coming racing stars of the future by working alongside his friend, driver manager and entertainment entrepreneur, Chas Cole next year.

The two colleagues will use their highly rated skills from their respective worlds of motorsport and music to identify, target and develop opportunities for drivers with natural racing talent who may not be in the position to take advantage of opportunities available to them.

The duo will attempt to target talent that could otherwise be wasted when they are unable to sample single-seater racing cars and receive no guidance.

Johnny Herbert comments on the new venture: I've been looking for an opportunity to give something back as motor racing has been good to me. When Chas suggested we work together I jumped at the chance. I've watched Chas put a lot of time and energy into the sport and it's now time for me to roll up my sleeves and see what I can do to help. Wayne Boyd, for example, who Chas spotted last year, and has now received the backing of the Racing Steps Foundation, is something special. Such a complete driver at such a young age and he's still got so much to learn – it’s wonderful to see. He reminds me of the old-school type of F1 drivers - very focused, no nonsense, modest and calm - just a real cool guy! He'll go far and anything I can do to help him I will. “

Johnny continues: “The Racing Steps Foundation and BRDC Superstars programmes support is brilliant for Wayne and I'm certain that together we can all make sure that Wayne develops properly and in the right way. But his talent may have been lost had Chas not stepped in and so, with this in mind, I will be spending more time in the UK next year and Chas and I will begin to develop a UK coaching operation. We are interested in helping find raw kids with the right attitude who we can teach. No social or financial barriers - just talent and ambition - and we'll help them to maximise their potential.” Chas Cole concludes: “

Johnny and I are still working on exact details, but to summarise what we want to do is  to  help  teach  and  develop  young  talented  drivers,  irrespective  of  their  social  or  financial  background. Education and opportunity is the key.”
