The Suzuki Swift Sport Cup, the only manufacturer backed one-make rally series in the UK, is to enter its second year of competition in 2009. Suzuki is the sole automaker to be present at manufacturer level in all major rallying disciplines, namely the British Rally Championship, the Junior Rally Championship, and the World Rally Championship.

The series sees drivers compete in identical Swift Sport Cup cars, based on the popular road-going hot hatch, in six individual rallies across the UK, comprising three gravel and three tarmac. Following on from 2008, next year’s competition will take place over five rounds of the MSA British Rally Championship in the Rally 1 category. Entrants will be eligible for class prize money within the BRC, in addition to the generous cash incentives and rewards offered by series hosts, Suzuki.

The series champion will walk away with a brand new Suzuki Swift Sport road car and will also have the opportunity to further hone their skills at the world-renowned John Haugland Winter Rally School in Norway.

With ever increasing pressures on budgets, the Swift Sport Cup offers participants a cost-effective ‘Arrive and Drive’ formula which includes factory preparation and transport of all cars for each round, as well as full technical support at every event.

Looking forward to the 2009 competition, Suzuki GB Motorsport Manager, Ian Robinson explains: “After a successful debut season, we are once again able to offer a tailor-made programme which offers value for money and a high level of competition, a unique proposition at a time when the purse strings are tightening and finding a sufficient budget to compete is becoming more difficult. It promises to be another close fight for the title, and an exciting year of racing.”

The team entries and the calendar for the 2009 Swift Sport Cup championship will be announced in due course.
