BSPA chairman Pete Toogood has described the first day of the sport's annual conference as positive.Elite and Premier League clubs will stage further discussions over the weekend with a full statement expected on Sunday evening.Toogood said: "We have had a successful closure to 2008 business and there is a feeling that we are all now ready to press ahead with 2009 business with vigour from Saturday morning."

BERWICK promoter Peter Waite has hinted that the Bandits' battle for survival could yet be successful.Waite is standing down after a decade at the helm at Shielfield Park and ha! s been urgently seeking a buyer.He said: "Something has come up completely out of the blue, and with a load of work still to do I'm going to make a major announcement sometime on Sunday."
