Boyd Tops Times at F3 Testing

2008 British Formula Ford Champion and Formula Ford Festival winner Wayne Boyd continued his preparation for the 2009 British Formula Three Championship last week by completing two  further  tests  with  F3  team,  T-Sport.

On  Wednesday  (26  November)  eighteen  year-old  Boyd,  from Templepatrick, County Down, spent the day testing at Rockingham, alongside current F3 drivers and fellow hopefuls, but it was Boyd who caught the eye, setting the fastest lap of the day - 1min 11.70 secs. Boyd, who is also a BRDC Superstar and finalist for the 2008 McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver Award, was pleased with how the day went.

"I'm really happy” said Boyd, “F3 has been a steep learning curve and I've still got so much to learn, but with the team’s help I'm getting better and better, day by day. It’s been great  working  with  T-Sport.  Skelly,  Russell  and  the  rest  of  the  guys  have  been  absolutely  brilliant.  I'm learning so much from them all. Most importantly, I really feel I can go faster."

On the following day (Thursday 27 November) Boyd joined T-Sport for a second day of testing, this time at Donington Park. Once again he set the fastest lap of the day with a time of 1min 2.10 secs. Boyd was delighted: It’s been fantastic - I’m really pleased with both days of testing. The conditions were really difficult today – it was so cold and windy and there was so much traffic. It wasn’t easy to get the tyres up to temperature, but  we managed  to  be patient  and learn the circuit.  By mid  afternoon  we  were setting good, competitive times and with help from the team, calling the traffic, I managed to put a really good lap together

“The team were very happy and that's the main thing. I need to convince them that I can do a good job and I think I am doing that. We have some more testing planned over the next two weeks and then, hopefully, we can get down to the business side of things and confirm a deal for next year. I can't wait. A huge thank you to everyone who has helped me in both Formula Ford and F3 this year. I can’t believe how much has happened - and I've still got this Sunday's Autosport Awards to look forward to. Fingers crossed!"
