Formula Ford dates for 2009

The British Formula Ford Championship will again be campaigned over 25 races and will be the chief supporting event to the British Formula 3 International Series.

The calendar for the Ford-backed series, announced today, sees the championship joining forces with British F3 and the British GT Championship at all of their UK meetings.

Another highlight for 2009 will be a support bill to the prestigious DTM German Touring Car Championship at Brands Hatch on its only visit to the UK. A return to Castle Combe circuit to headline the popular Formula Ford Carnival will complete this year's calendar.

Despite a reduction in the number of meetings from 10 to nine, British Formula Ford will maintain the 25-race format of the last two seasons - designed to provide not only value for money for competitors but also valuable track and racing experience.

Sam Roach, of championship promoter RacingLine, said: "The 25-race format is enormously popular with the drivers, who relish the chance to take part in three races at some of the meetings. More of those meetings will adopt a triple-header format in 2009, which enables us to get the most out of driver budgets by reducing the number of meetings from 10 to nine.

"It is pleasing to be reinforcing our links with British F3 for another season. Our championships fit perfectly and the ever-increasing flow of drivers from Formula Ford to Formula 3 is a continuing reminder of a well-worn career path."

As in previous seasons, the 2009 British Formula Ford Champion will win a free entry into the following season's British Formula 3 International Series.

Added Roach: "2009 is set to be an outstanding year for British Formula Ford. The teams are experiencing exceptional driver interest levels from all corners of the globe, despite the challenging economic times. With the addition of some very credible new teams and chassis, I confidently predict 2009 to be a vintage year for the formula."
