GP2 Racing Engineering signs Dani Clos

Racing Engineering has announced the signing of Spanish driver Dani Clos for the 2009  GP2 Main Series Championship.

The 20-years-old driver from Barcelona will make his debut in GP2 with Racing Engineering, the Spanish team that won the drivers championship title in the 2008 season. Dani Clos began his racing career in 1997, entering in the Spanish and Catalonian Junior KartingChampionships. During the following six years, the new Racing Engineering driver won several karting titles and stepped up to single-seater racing in 2004 participating in the Formula Junior 1.6, where he finished fourth.

Formula Renault was the next step in Daniʼs rising career, and for two seasons he participated in the European and Italian Championship, being crowned champion in Italy. After two very good seasons in the F3 Euroseries, Dani, who is part of Williamsʼ Young Drivers Program, had the opportunity to tests with the British F1 team at two occasions at the end of the 2008.

In 2009 Dani will participate in GP2 with Racing Engineering and is looking forward to his debut in this competitive championship, which he regards as the logic step in his career to achieve his ultimate goal, get a racing seat in Formula 1.

I believe that GP2 is essential for the improvement of a professional driver. It is my priority this year to understand the car as much as possible and take the most advantage of the experience of a winning team, to reach the highest level. I have a lot of confidence in Racing Engineeringʼs people and believe that is a fundamental part to be able to advance and improve in each race”.

Alfonso de Orleans-Borbon, Team Principal: “Racing Engineering is pleased to have entered an agreement with a driver of the Daniʼs talent. I have always wanted him to race with us, since our days in F3. This it is a two year project and during the first season, Dani will adapt to the category and the GP2 car. But considering his experience and the fact that he has already driven a Formula One car, I am sure he will come up with some surprises. After, we will try to win the title with him”. Racing Engineering will announce Daniʼs teammate for the 2009 season shortly.
