Nakajima joins Räikkönen Robertson

in British F3

Japanese racer Daisuke Nakajima will join Räikkönen Robertson Racing for the 2009 British F3 International Series.

The 20 year-old driver, brother of F1 racer Kazuki Nakajima, has already completed an extensive test programme with the Double R squad.  Nakajima will join Carlos Huertas at the 2006 championship winning team.

The 20 year-old racer comes fresh from the Formula 3 Japan championship, while in 2007, Nakajima raced in the Formula Challenge Japan championship where he finished fifth.

Nakajima comes from a strong motorsport heritage, his brother currently races with the Williams F1 Team while his father, Satoru Nakajima, raced in F1 throughout the late eighties and early nineties, is credited with being a pioneer for Japanese racing drivers.

Nakajima is one of only seven drivers selected to be part of Honda’s Formula Dream Project – a program for cultivating the talent of young drivers inside and outside Japan.

Speaking about his new team, Nakajima said, “I’m very excited to be racing in the UK this year and with a top team such as Double R.  I know it will be a challenge for me this season, but I hope to be winning races from the start.  I did a lot of testing with the team at the end of last year, and I felt very comfortable.  I am extremely grateful for the support that Honda have given me, and I will not waste this chance in British F3 this year.”

Team principal Anthony Hieatt added, “Daisuke is a very welcome addition to the team.  He’s already completed a number of tests with us and has gelled very well with his mechanics and engineer.  His has already shown himself to be extremely quick and I’m looking forward to working with him this season.  Both Daisuke and Carlos are very competitive and I know they will be pushing each other hard once the season gets underway next month.”
