Mixed emotions for Fat Burner Racing Engineering during the first day of testing at the Circuito de Cataluña, where Lucas Di Grassi set the fastest time of the day and Dani Clos suffered an engine failure in the morning.
After very productive and successful three days of testing in Paul Ricard two weeks ago, Fat Burner Racing Engineering’s Dani Clos and Lucas Di Grassi started the second and last test of the season in Barcelona with mixed fortunes. With a strict program to be followed, mainly focusing on the evaluation of the medium compound tyres for the first time used on the Spanish track, Dani suffered a little setback in the morning session, when after completing just a few laps, the engine on his car broke. Despite losing precious time in the morning, Dani was able to carry on working on his program during the afternoon session and gained important insights.
Lucas Di Grassi’s day, on the other hand, went smoothly as he was able to run a qualifying simulation program. Lucas lapped the fastest time of the day during the afternoon session at 1'27"471 and continues to set benchmark times during the 2009 pre-season test days.
Lucas Di Grassi: “We did a qualifying simulation today to see how the medium compound tyres work in Barcelona. As they are new for this track, we wanted to see how they reacted and went for a fast time. The car is very, very good and the team did a really good job. We obtained precious information as the car ran perfectly all day”.
Dani Clos: “The first day of testing didn't start off as expected. Very early in the morning session my engine broke, so I could not run anymore in the morning. During the afternoon session we just continued with our testing program and were not looking at the lap times”.
Alfonso de Orleáns-Borbón, Team President: “Good work from everyone in the team. It's a pity what happened with Dani's engine, but better now than during a race weekend. Obviously the qualifying simulation on Lucas' car was positive. Now we have to switch to the other work planned”.
