Scottish Motor Racing to benefit

from expanded Motors TV coverage in ‘09

Motors TV will again be the exclusive home of Scottish Motorsport in 2009 after series organisers renewed a deal that sees the Channel expanding its commitment to no less than 26 hours of coverage throughout the year.

The burgeoning Scottish scene produced some of the best club action to be found anywhere in the UK last season with its mix of close racing, competitive pricing and full grids proving a hit with teams, drivers and fans alike. In recognition of this, and their commitment to hosting the “Best of British Motorsport”, the High Speed Television Channel has added an extra hour’s coverage per round to its 2009 line-up.

The country’s showpiece championship, the Scottish Mini Cooper Cup, once again tops the bill and will benefit from an hour of coverage for every one of its eight rounds which include trips south of the border to Cadwell Park and across the Irish Sea to Kirkistown.    - Wednesday evenings from 6pm.

It’s joined once again by the Scottish Legends series, a championship for hot-rod lookalikes, which also gets an hour’s dedicated programming for each of its six races.

Meanwhile, the Ford championships have also been confirmed for a return with an hour scheduled per round for the ever-popular Scottish Formula Ford 1600 and XR2 Fiesta campaigns, the latter joined this year by the model’s newer ST version.

The final one hour programme caters for touring car fans old and new thanks to both the Scottish and Classic Sports and Saloons championships where the usual array of panel-bashing and paint-swapping should be in evidence.

Motors TV’s Head of Programming and Acquisitions, Frederic Viger said, “Over the last few years we’ve been concentrating on expanding our coverage of national and regional series. We found that last season’s Scottish Motor Racing content was particularly well received, mainly because it covers championships that would usually get little or no exposure. So successful was it in fact that we’ve decided to go down this same path again and expand our Scottish coverage for 2009 which represents a key piece in Motors TV’s ‘Best of British Motorsport’ jigsaw.”

The retention of the Scottish club scene is just the start of Motors TV’s plans to showcase the “Best of British Motorsport” in 2009 with a flurry of new additions set to be announced shortly.

The Mini Cooper Cup kicks off this season’s Scottish coverage on Wednesday, 15th April from 6pm.
