Rahal races at the Silverstone Classic

Stars and stripes at the Silverstone Classic

With legendary American driver Bobby Rahal joining Masters Historic Racing in the World Sportscar Masters 90-minute endurance race, Silverstone Classic is adding stars and stripes to its line-up of racing talents on 24 to 26 July.

Indianapolis 500 winner and three-times Champ Car champion, Bobby Rahal is no stranger to European historic race events: he has put a Lola and a Porsche 917 through their paces at Le Mans Classic and occasionally races touring and GT cars.

His debut at the Silverstone Classic in the World Sportscar Masters sees him as a strong contender at the wheel of a Chevron B16 FVC.

Ron Maydon, founder of Masters said: “Silverstone spectators and TV viewers who watched the 90-minute endurance race last year can really look forward to seeing Bobby add his skills and experience to a spectacular race. As a historic car connoisseur and racer, he is a great asset to us and the Silverstone Classic this year.”

Bobby Rahal said: “Without underestimating the opposition, I hope to be a strong contender on my debut in the WSM, driving a Chevron B16 at the Silverstone Classic. Masters Historic Racing is renowned for the high standards of car preparation and driving, but above all it will be enjoyable to be part of a group of like-minded racers at this important historic racing event.”

With five further US drivers signed up and other participants coming from 12 different countries, the Silverstone Classic 2009 is on track to be a truly international racing event.
