Räikkönen Robertson end testing on high

Räikkönen Robertson Racing topped the time sheets today, at the final British F3 pre-season test of the year at Silverstone.

17 year-old F3 rookie Carlos Huertas finished both the morning and afternoon session as the fastest driver, as the Colombian prepares for his first F3 race next week at Oulton Park.

Räikkönen Robertson Racing team mate Daisuke Nakajima finished the test 10th quickest.  With just over a week until the season commences, the team have high hopes ahead of the 2009 Cooper Tires British F3 International Series.

With the drivers taking to the track for a short test during yesterday’s British F3 media day, the testing resumed again this morning, in dry and sunny conditions.  Huertas put in an impressive performance to set the quickest time in the morning, just 0.074 seconds quicker than Max Chilton.  The Räikkönen Robertson Racing driver kept up the pressure in the afternoon session however, shaving a fraction off his best time of the day to keep his position at the top of the time sheets.

Reflecting on the test, Huertas said, “We had a good day, we knew we had a few problems to solve following the short test session we did yesterday and I’m pleased that we’ve made progress.  I improved on a couple of corners and the team made some steps forward with the car.   I’m pleased that we were fastest in both the morning and afternoon session as that shows that we had genuine pace.

“It’s good to finish testing on a high note with the first race of the season only a week or so away, although I know we still need to keep improving.    Obviously, you’re always excited about the first race of the season, but the F3 car is such a great car to drive, I really can’t wait for the racing to get underway.” Team Principal Anthony Hieatt added,

“The team did a good job at Silverstone and Carlos is now showing the pace that we’ve know he was capable of.  Daisuke also made progress, so I think from a team perspective we’re in good shape for Oulton Park.”

The first race of the season will take place at Oulton Park in Cheshire from 10 – 13 April.
