Kelly to make racing return

in Carrera Cup at ThruxtonMatt Kelly is a late addition to the entry for the Porsche Carrera Cup GB at Thruxton this weekend (25/26 April) as he ends a six-year break from racing.Kelly, now team manager for the RSS Performance team, will race the car of John Quartermaine who is unable to race at Thruxton due to an on-going shoulder injury. Kelly was a very successful racer in TVR Tuscans, MGFs, National Saloons and the European Touring Car Championship in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but has not raced since 2003."I feel excited, nervous and anxious," said Kelly. "This chance only came up this morning (Wednesday). I'm going to collect a race licence tomorrow morning. Being at Thruxton will make it even more difficult; it's a high-speed learning curve. But I've always gone well at Thruxton."Quartermaine has been racing with RSS Performance, but is likely to be sidelined for some time with further surgery on his damaged shoulder. "John has been an absolute star," said Kelly. "He's been very brave so far and I'm really grateful that he has offered me the chance to drive his car. I never used to get offers like this when I was racing full time!"Kelly has yet to drive a 911GT3 Cup car and his last race was in a Caterham Superlight in 2003 when he won at Spa and Croft. "I've got to learn the car and the circuit in half an hour of qualifying on Saturday. It's a big ask and I'm being realistic about it. I'd like to run up around the top 10 by the second race on Sunday."
