A classic year-end race like the WSK Final Cup often provides some good indications of what could happen the following season. For CRG, the auspices are favourable for 2012 given that Mirko Torsellini was capable of winning the KZ2 final despite a start in the last place in timed qualifying. The two new team recruits in KZ1, Felice Tiene and Jordon Lennox-Lamb, made a successful debut just behind a Davide Forè always in form in sixth place, while Arnaud Kozlinski claimed a nice fourth place before retiring.
These good performances from the whole of the team highlight the potential of the CRG chassis as well as the very convincing level reached by the Maxter engines prepared directly by the company, on a technical and demanding track like the Circuito internazionale d'Abruzzo of Ortona, at the presence of the best specialists in the 125cc gearbox class.
The final victory conquered by young Mirko Torsellini in KZ2 was the recognition of a very talented driver, who has literally made sparks fly this year behind the wheel of his official CRG/Maxter. But the meeting had not started under the best auspices due to a wheel technical problem and the last place in timed qualifying. But Torsellini managed to overcome these difficulties to get back to the leading pack, while avoiding all collisions and mistakes, which is never easy at Ortona. His mission was finally accomplished at the end of the qualifying heats, and in the pre-final he was already 11th in the classification. Then he remained lucid enough in the final to regain some more ground in KZ1 and crossed the finish line in 6th place overall, valiantly conquering the lead in KZ2.
Setting off near the back too in timed qualifying, Arnaud Kozlinski and Davide Foré, racing in KZ1, also brilliantly carved their way through during the heats. The Frenchman made an excellent start in the final and was fighting in the leading pack in 4th place when his chain jumped off and he was forced to retire. Foré did not give up an inch and managed to get back to 6th, not far from the leaders. The two rookies of the official team showed a high level of performance during their first race in KZ1, despite a few mishaps in the heats. Felice Tiene came out slightly better in the classification, concluding with a 7th place behind Foré, while Jordon Lennox-Lamb had to do his maximum to make up for the handicap of a retirement during qualifying, and reached the 8th place in KZ1. Hopes are now high for the 2012 formation of the CRG Racing Team, which next season will focus on the KZ classes.
Among the youngsters, the Japanese Jinya Yamakawa confirmed his promising potential in KF3 and a quick progression to the top 10, though he lost some time in the final in the many crashes that marked the start of the race.
