20-year-old Salisbury driver Dan Wells has finished second in race two at the first round of the two part 2011 Protyre Formula Renault UK Finals Series on a wet Snetterton circuit, claiming his maiden podium finish of the season.After qualifying on grid three for the race yesterday morning in similar conditions, Dan made a move on Fortec Competitions driver Felix Serralles to move up into second place. Calm under pressure, Dan pulled a comfortable gap of one second from the chasing group, finishing only 3 tenths behind the race winner."I am absolutely ecstatic!" stated an exuberant Wells. " I have been really pushing myself all year to get onto the podium in the Formula Renault 2.0 category and, after narrowly missing out at Brand Hatch late in the season it's just great to have finished on the podium here this afternoon. The team has worked really hard on the car and have been supportive all season and it is just a great feeling to be so competitive in a field of 29 entries. I don't think anyone can wipe the smile off my face right now but tomorrow I will have to refocus to be able to perform at this level again in qualifying and in the two races."Australian teammate Geoff Uhrhane qualified inside the top 10 for both races today securing grid 8 and 9 for races one and two receptively but, after moving up into 6th place in race one Geoff fell victim in the second after being hit from behind into the first hairpin ending his race there and then."It has been a huge learning curve this week after driving the Formula Ford all year." Geoff stated. "In practice I have been consistently lapping times well inside the top 10 and we qualified 8th and 9th today which in a field of 29 experienced drivers is a good result. The first race I was able to move up into 6th, which was great, but in the second I was hit from behind into the first turn so, I am juts focusing on the two races tomorrow. This series for me is about getting a feel for the car in time for the 2012 championship year and all we need to do now is keep improving."Team Principal Anthony Reid commented on the day "Its great to have been here to share in Dan's fabulous results. We are all very proud of him and will hope to see him improve over the series and share in his many future success. Both of our drivers are performing well within our expectations this weekend, Geoff in particular has made a fantastic transition from the Formula Ford to the Renault 2.0 and I am sure that tomorrow he will be up there with Dan. In terms of developing and testing for the 2012 season it would be great to have a dry track tomorrow so we can have the best of both worlds, but none the less a really productive, successful day, happy days!"
