Wells Celebrates 2nd in 2011 Formula Renault 2.0 UK Protyre Finals Series

Dan Wells has today secured second position in the 2011 Formula Renault 2.0 UK Finals Series after the conclusion of today's action packed racing at Rockingham Motor Speedway. Wells finished on the podium three times over the two-part series at Snetterton and Rockingham, to cement his podium finish in the 2011 series.

After qualifying in 5th position for the final races of the series, Dan fought his way back onto the podium to secure third place in the first race of the day. Crossing the line in 6th position in race two, Dan crossed the finish line, pumping the air, celebrating his second place finish in the championship.

"Today has been a mixed bag of emotion." Dan stated. "We managed another podium in race one and the second race was all over the place with the amount of safety car periods, but I have finished second in the championship which is just brilliant for me and the team! I am really looking forward to next year!"

"Wells moved to the Atech Reid GP team mid season and has developed his driving skills, proving himself to be a real contender for the 2012 Championship season after his performance at Snetterton and Rockingham." Team Principal Anthony Reid stated. "We are really looking forward to working with him in 2012. "

Teammate Geoff Uhrhane qualified in positions 13 and 12 for the two races but was unable to capitalize on his usual pace held back by numerous safety car periods to see him finish race one in 12th. Race two saw three safety car periods, which the Atech Reid GP was making the best of. Moving up three positions after the first stint and one position after the second, Geoff continued to move up the order until the last few laps of the race. With only 3 minutes left in the race the Australian was making a move on the driver ahead of him who locked their brakes, spun and hit Geoff off the circuit, ending his race there and then.

"There was bound to be carnage in the last race of the series." Geoff stated. "To make up easy positions all you needed to do was stay consistent and out of trouble. I was able to do that until the dying stages of the race when I started to make a move on the driver ahead who then made a mistake and took us both out. It is really difficult in any series you race in to progress from the mid pack. The trick is to qualify at the front of the grid to stay out of the carnage. That will be my focus for the 2012 championship year."

"I have to agree with Geoff with regards to race two, it was incredibly frustrating." Dan stated. "There was just so many safety car periods and I was unable to get into a groove and pass the drivers ahead of me. The car had the pace, it seemed the majority of the race we were just following each other around."

Team Principal, Anthony Reid rounded out the two-part series "The Finals Series has been fantastic for all our drivers. It has given them plenty of track time, fabulous racing experience and has been instrumental in building their racing confidence in time for the 2012 Championship season. It was great to share in so many podium celebrations with Dan and it was fabulous to see the improvement in Geoff after making the tricky transition from the Formula Ford category. He really improved his on track pace. Now we will be working on getting him quick on new rubber so he can showcase his pace at the front of the grid where he belongs. We have now secured two championship podiums after securing 3rd place in the 2011 Formula Renault 2.0 UK Championship earlier this year with Tio Ellinas and now 2nd position with Dan Wells. I think you can say that is a positive year."

Atech Reid GP now heads back to Wales to prepare the cars in time for the 2012 pre-season testing. The team will be heading off to Spain in early December to test on the Euro Cup circuits. Full testing programs and budgets are available. Visit www.atechreidgp.com for contact details.
