Round 1: Jon MacKenzie Autotests, 11 March

Reigning champion Steven Ferguson won the opening round of the 2012 championship, the Jon MacKenzie Autotests, organised by Hagley & District Light Car Club.

Ferguson was pushed all the way by championship newcomer Robin Lyons, who was never more than 3.2 seconds off the lead; he eventually finished just 2.5 seconds adrift after the 16 tests.

David Thompson made it an Irish lockout of the podium, with a fine drive to third overall in his Vauxhall Nova. Richard Pinkney was also in contention over the early tests in his Caterham but ended up fourth after gearbox and engine problems.
