Ilyas Edges Closer To Pace During Final Pre-Season F3 Test

Double R Racing's Fahmi Ilyas delivered his strongest outing yet at the wheel of the team's brand new Dallara F312 during the final test of the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series pre-season at Oulton Park today, Wednesday, 28th March, to end the run ninth fastest overall. In actuality the 20-year-old was eighth quickest in both of the day's sessions, first posting a time of 1m29.832 seconds (107.88mph) in session one before lapping marginally quicker in the afternoon to round-out the test with a fastest of 1m29.773 seconds (107.95mph).Just half a second shy of the overall top six, the Malaysian continued to make big strides forward on only his third day in the Mercedes-powered car since signing for the Woking team just a couple of weeks ago."It was another good, straightforward day", said team principal Anthony 'Boyo' Hieatt, "We're still learning more and more about the new car but Fahmi did a good job today and in the second session he was only 0.8 seconds off the pace so we're pretty happy with that. He didn't improve on his last set of tyres, so he was a bit disappointed about that, but otherwise it was all very positive."For Double R's National Class runner Duvashen Padayachee, today's visit to Oulton's International Circuit marked his first ever appearance at the Cheshire venue which will host the opening three rounds of the 2012 British F3 season on Easter weekend.Posting a time of 1m34.293 seconds (102.77mph) in the morning, which was quickest in class, the Australian rookie found an additional 0.7 seconds in the afternoon to end the day with a best effort of 1m33.592 seconds (103.54mph) - second fastest National runner."Obviously it was Duvashen's first visit to Oulton so it was important for him to get as many laps in as possible in preparation for the first round of the season next weekend", added Hieatt, "He made some progress between the two sessions and we're sure he'll move forward further when we're back in Cheshire in a week's time."With officially timed testing now concluded, all attention turns to the first three races of the 2012 Cooper Tires British F3 International Series. After a 55-minute practice run on Good Friday, 6th April, qualifying will take place at 14.15. Rounds one, two and three will follow on Saturday, 7th April, at 09.55, 13.45 and 17.00.
