YOUNG VENETO-BASED RACER BATTLES WITH THE SUPERSTARS CHAMPIONS ABOARD A ROMA RACING TEAM MERCEDES C63 AMG
The INTERNATIONAL SUPERSTARS SERIES has discovered a new young talent. Rookie Andrea Boffo, 17, made his touring car debut aboard a Roma Racing Team Mercedes C63 AMG after a stint in Formula Renault. The Veneto-based racer left a strong impression as he did not show any kind of reverential awe and fought with the top racers of the championship. In Qualifying, he cruised to a sensational 6th place and in Race 1, before committing a small mistake, he kept battling for a podium finish. In Race 2, he finally took his first points of the season with a positive top-10 finish.
«The most impressive thing at Monza is been seeing so many people - said Boffo - when you get to the first chicane and you realize that the grandstands are packed, well that's an additional motivation to take the best out of yourself. In the paddock, there's a lot of people stopping you, asking for autographs. It's an incredilbe feeling, something you can't describe until you're there».
You fought with drivers like Liuzzi, Morbidelli and Salo, what did it mean to you? «It felt like I was dreaming. They have more than 20 years of experience, raced in F.1, while I put on my first set of new tires on Saturday…».
«Without some mistakes like the one I made in Race 1, when I spun while I was in 5th, I could have done a lot better. But I think it's enough for now. I'm young an I know I have large room for improvement. Driving a 600-hp car is not easy, even though a SUPERSTARS car is more forgiving than an open-wheeler. It's easier to correct and you can really learn a lot from it».
How did the team help you achieving this result? «Everybody tried to make me at ease. Nico Caldarola gave me some really valuable advice as he told me to stay calm and not to push too hard when it wasn't necessary. I followed that advice and I ended up with a 9th place finish in Race 2».
The next round for Boffo and for SUPERSTARS is set for April the 21st and 22nd at Imola. At one of his favorite venues from last season's F.Renault, Boffo is ready to repeat the great results scored in 2011.
