Porche, Ferrari set sights on GTSprint International victory at Imola

THE GRAND TOURING SERIES BACK WITH A 20-CAR GRID FOR ROUND 2 OF 2012

Porsche or Ferrari? The most renowned challenge in Grand Touring competition will be up for its next chapter this weekend at Imola, in the second out of seven rounds of the 2012 GTSPRINT INTERNATIONAL SERIES starting at "Autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari" in Imola. The GTS 2 class is set to feature another great showoff between highly-talented drivers. After their 1-2 wins at Monza with the Ferrari 458 Italia, Black Team will face the strong opposition of the Autorlando-prepared Porsche 997. The Stuttgart sportscar maker will rely on Glauco Solieri, who is set to strike back at his home racetrack.

Great news will also come from GTS 3, with the much-anticipated debut of Ombra Racing. The Italian squad, coming from the open-wheel arena,  will line-up a brand-new Ferrari 458 Italia for Mario Cordoni. They are set to be challenged by the American muscle of the RC Motorsport Corvette, back to impress with the Benedetti-Del Castello duo. Another Ferrari is expected to be lined-up by the Easy Race team.

The weekend at Imola will also welcome some valuable new entries in the GTS Open class. The main additions will be two BMW M3 24 Hours Special cars. Alongside Italian Endurance Touring Car Champion Piero Necchi (who was forced to withdraw at Monza due to mechanical issues), experienced Andrea Bacci will be eager to make his breakthrough in GTSPRINT.

GTS CUP TROPHY SET FOR SPECTACULAR BATTLE AT IMOLAThe GTS Cup Trophy is returning on-track at Imola with its great mix of Ferrari, Lamborghini and Porsche racecars involved in a top-notch challenge within a challenge. The GTSPRINT INTERNATIONAL SERIES GTS Cup pack will be led by Colombian Steven Goldstein, who won Race 1 at Monza aboard the Mik Corse Lamborghini Gallardo and is leading in standings together with team-mate Felipe Merjech. He will be challenged by Race 2 winner Gianfranco Bocellari, aboard a Kessel Racing-prepared Ferrari 430, and by a competitive Porsche field featuring teams like Antonelli Sport, Ebimotors and Happy Racer. More Maranello-powered sportscars will be run by Scuderia La.Na, Scuderia Baldini 27 Network and Team Malucelli.
