Porsche Scholar Lloyd Aiming For Consistent Thruxton

Front-running Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship racer Daniel Lloyd aims to string together his most consistent race weekend yet when rounds five and six of the 2012 campaign take place this weekend, 28th/29th April, at the ultra-fast Thruxton Circuit near Andover in Hampshire.Attaining podium results at each of the first two events of his debut season in the series, at Brands Hatch Indy Circuit and Donington Park respectively, the 20-year-old Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar has already marked himself out as a genuine star of the championship.Added to that, the Huddersfield driver was second fastest in the official test day at Thruxton earlier this month so hopes are high for a continuation of the sensational form he’s displayed since graduating to the hugely prestigious Dunlop MSA British Touring Car Championship support category.“There are so many positives from Brands Hatch and Donington but I’m still waiting for a properly smooth weekend, so we’re aiming for that at Thruxton”, said Daniel, “I’d love to get my first win but I’m not thinking about that too much, I just want a solid weekend with lots of points – it’s important to get that under my belt.”While Thruxton is one of the country’s most demanding circuits at the best of times, with no practice session prior to the weekend’s action the upcoming event is set to be, potentially, the toughest of the year as drivers will have to go straight into qualifying with no preparation. The importance of a strong qualifying run at Thruxton can’t be understated – it really could make or break Daniel’s race weekend.“It’s going to be mega hard in qualifying, we’ll be straight into the session without any testing on the Friday and you have to be right on it immediately”, added the TNT Post, TSD, Creechurch Private Wealth, Propack and TPA Yorkshire-supported driver, “You literally have to do your quickest time on laps two or three on your new tyres, otherwise you’re screwed. “In the test we did a couple of weeks ago, I did my best time on lap five so that’s why I was quite a big chunk off [Michael] Meadows. He got it perfect and everyone else didn’t. That’s what I need to do in qualifying or there will be a load of hard work ahead in the races!”Currently equal fifth in the championship standings, the Yorkshire Patron has produced some of the very best racing and overtaking seen so far this year – in particular at Donington Park last time out when he produced a superb podium finish from sixth on the grid in round four of the season.“I’m enjoying every minute of being in Porsche Carrera Cup GB, each weekend I think what a huge opportunity this is for my career”, said Daniel, “It really is fantastic and an amazing championship to be part of. We’ve had some good results so far, hopefully we can have the best yet at Thruxton.”Qualifying will take place at 14.35 on Saturday, 28th April, with rounds five and six set to follow on Sunday, 29th April, at 12.20 and 16.25 respectively. The second of the two encounters will be screened live on Freeview, digital satellite and cable channel ITV4, in High Definition on ITV4 HD and with simultaneous online streaming at itv.com/btcc2012 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship Driver Standings (after Rd4):=5th Daniel Lloyd & Ben Barker, 42pts
