The CN Racing team endured a mixed weekend at Donington Park where they were competing in rounds four and five of the Metzeler National Superstock 1000cc Championship. Josh Day was able to claim a morale boosting 13th place in Sunday's second race and claim some more championship points but there was disappointment for team-mate Gavin Hunt after a race one crash ruled him out of the rest of the weekend.

A solid start to this morning's 12-lap race saw Cirencester's Day lie in 20th place but he soon found his rhythm and was able to overtake a number of riders in front of him, eventually moving up inside the points on lap seven. However, just when it looked like he'd take a confidence-building top 15 finish, he was forced to retire with just two laps of the race remaining with the chain jumping the rear sprocket.

However, he came out fighting in this afternoon's similar length race and, after completing the first lap in 17th place, he moved up to 13th at the chequered flag to pick up three championship points.

For Hunt though it was a disappointing weekend and the opening race was over before it had begun after he highsided out of the action at Redgate Corner on the first lap. Although a bit battered and bruised, the Isle of Man rider wanted to take his place on the grid for race two but medics ruled otherwise and he was forced to watch from the sidelines.

Josh Day: "Overall, it's been a solid weekend and although I would have liked to have finished inside the top ten and scored more points, we've made huge progress with the bike this weekend. I'm getting more and more confident with the bike and if it hadn't been for the chain jumping the sprocket in the first race I'd have scored some points there too. I had to work hard in both races, but I felt a lot better out there and it was good to be able to compete properly. Hopefully, we've turned the corner now and have a good platform to build on so the aim is to keep on improving and finish inside the top ten, and then top six, as soon as possible."

Gavin Hunt: "It's been a disappointing weekend and not at all what I was hoping for. Qualifying went ok but I made a small mistake going into the first corner of the first race and the back end came round on me. I banged my head a bit but it was a tweaked neck that kept me out for the rest of the weekend. I've damaged the muscles slightly and with it becoming slightly inflamed, it wasn't worth taking the risk. All I can do is put the weekend behind me and look forward to better luck next time out at Snetterton."

Julia Taylor (Team Principal): "It's been a bit of a mixed weekend for the team but for Josh, it's been a huge turnaround and we're really pleased with how he's ridden. The team have worked really hard and, collectively, they've been able to iron out a few issues with the bike and it was clear to see how much happier Josh was with the bike. He'd have liked to have qualified higher up to give himself a better chance whilst the mechanical problems in the first race were annoying but he bounced back really well and we're all delighted to see him scoring some points.

"Gavin made a small error after making a good start and he was just a bit eager going into the first corner, going slightly off line and crashing out as a result. He wasn't too badly hurt and wanted to race but his neck was a bit inflamed and it wasn't really worth taking any chances so his weekend finished early. Like I say, we've made progress with the bikes so with a bit more luck we'll have both riders finishing in the points next time out at Snetterton and we'll be going all out to achieve just that."
