Ups and Downs for Johnny Blackshaw at Donington

Accident Advice Solicitors supported rider Johnny Blackshaw riding for Smiths Triumph had a mixed weekend at Donington Park this weekend. The National Superstock class had two races that ran alongside the World Superbike Championship. Johnny was still feeling very sore after the incident at Oulton Park last week and to make matters worse he crashed during qualifying at Donington Park at one of the fastest parts of the track Craner Curves.

Feeling very second hand for the opening 12-lap race Johnny managed to qualify in ninth place for the races; he had a steady start and was eighth after the first lap. He was soon sat in a comfortable seventh place and then he started to suffer with brake problems on the Smiths Triumph which forced him to run wide off the track and re-join in 25th place, he got his head down but could only manage to come back through to 18th position.

For the second race things started to improve and after a bad start and being down in 12th place after lap one the youngster fought his way through to a very strong fifth place. JB soon got his head down and after a few changes to the bike he was soon putting in good lap times and making some strong passes through the race to work his way up to fifth and a good handful of Championship points.

JB - "What a few weekends, they have been a bit of a nightmare, Oulton wasn't my fault but the last thing I needed was to crash there during qualifying. I'm extremely sore and feeling very second hand so I knew the races would be tough. I was doing ok in race one but I was struggling with my brakes and it forced me to run off the track, there just weren't enough laps for me to get myself back into the points. I had another good night's sleep and I was still feeling very tender on Sunday, I knew I had to get a good race result and try and get my season back on track. It was a tough race and I had to work hard to make a lot of passes and get up to fifth. I'd like to thank everyone at Smiths Triumph for all the work they did and also Accident Advice Solicitors for their support."
