British Racing Drivers’ Club Congratulates its Members after a Flurry of International Success

The British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) congratulates its Members after a weekend in which no less than five of them graced the top step of the podium in high profile international races.Without any doubt the two highest profile Motor races in the world – the Monaco Grand Prix and the Indianapolis 500 – were won by Mark Webber and Dario Franchitti respectively.  Victory made both drivers multiple winners of these historic events, with Dario now the most successful British driver in the history of the Indy 500 after winning his third Indy 500.  Mark’s second Monaco win followed a faultless drive and relentless pressure from the pursuing pack which produced the closest ever finish in the 70 year history of the annual race around the streets of Monte Carlo.Congratulations are also due to Jolyon Palmer, Sam Bird and Sean Edwards who all won their Monaco Grand Prix support races in GP2, Formula Renault 3.5 and the Porsche Supercup respectively. President of the BRDC, Derek Warwick commented;“I’d like to offer my congratulations to Mark and Dario for two remarkable wins that puts them both in the history books of our sport.  I’d also like to say how impressed I am with BRDC SuperStars Jolyon and Sam, along with Sean they all deserve huge credit for winning extremely competitive races on the most demanding of circuits.  We can all be very proud of what these five, fine ambassadors for our sport have achieved.”
