Lloyd Aiming For Top Step Of Porsche Carrera Cup Podium

Oulton Park Island Circuit in Cheshire hosts the resumption of the 2012 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship next weekend, 9th/10th June, where Huddersfield racer Daniel Lloyd aims to add to the remarkable history-making victory he achieved five weeks ago during round six of the season. The 20-year-old Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar, who drives for Team Parker Racing, has proven to be one of the undoubted stars of the championship in his debut campaign with a run of truly sensational performances during the first three race meetings of the season.Achieving podium results at both Brands Hatch and Donington Park, the visit to Thruxton in Hampshire provided the breakthrough moment for the TNT Post, TSD, Creechurch Private Wealth, Propack and TPA Yorkshire-supported racer when he secured his first Porsche Carrera Cup GB win.Producing supreme car control despite running slick tyres on a track damp from earlier rain, Daniel entered the championship record books as the first Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholar to claim a race win in their maiden season. He was also awarded the prestigious ‘Driver of the Weekend’ accolade. Thanks to his Thruxton success, the West Yorkshireman will arrive at the picturesque and demanding Oulton Park Island Circuit next weekend in the coveted championship top three. With his maiden victory already in the bag after only six races, Daniel is determined to mount another challenge for the top step of the podium in rounds seven and eight.“I’m really looking forward to Oulton, there’s been a big gap since Thruxton so I can’t wait to be back in the car”, he commented, “I’ve been keeping really busy over the last few weeks, we had the Leeds Half Marathon smack bang in the middle of the break [where Daniel raised £1,100 for the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice], I did a trackday for my sponsors and I’ve been training really hard as well.“I absolutely love Oulton Park and I really want to get another win, but we mainly need to score big points in both races to try and close down the top two in the championship. It is my home track and we have 40 guests and sponsors coming along so I really want to make them all proud with a couple of great results – and repay them all for their fantastic support.”He added: “It’s been an amazing year so far, everything has been really incredible, and now I’ve got the first win it’s made me even hungrier and more determined than ever to get back on the top step of the podium!”Although Daniel knows Oulton Park well and has tested there in his Porsche 911 GT3, he hasn’t raced at the Cheshire venue – which is very much his local circuit, situated just 60 miles from his home in Scammonden – since 2009 when he competed in the Renault Clio Cup championship.Pre-event testing for the fourth event of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season will take place on Friday, 8th June, with qualifying following on Saturday, 9th June, at 11.45. Both races, rounds seven and eight, will be contested on Sunday, 10th June, at 13.00 and 16.25 respectively. The first encounter will be screened live on Freeview, digital satellite and cable channel ITV4, on ITV4 HD and also online at the itv.com/btcc website. Round eight will also be streamed live online but television coverage of the race will be screened ‘as-live’ on ITV4 later on Sunday evening at 20.00 due to a clash with the channel’s live afternoon broadcast of the French Open tennis final from Paris.2012 Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship Driver Standings (after Rd6):1st Michael Meadows, 117pts; 2nd Jonas Gelzinis, 88pts; 3rd Daniel Lloyd, 74pts
