Ahmad Al Harthy Aiming To Maintain Series Lead At Oulton‏

Oulton Park in Cheshire hosts rounds seven and eight of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Championship this coming weekend, 9th/10th June, where Oman Air Racing Team driver Ahmad Al Harthy is focused on maintaining, and hopefully increasing, his already impressive Pro-Am 1 Class points lead.Going into the fourth race meeting of the 2012 season with a 31 point advantage over his closest rival, the 30-year-old from Muscat has enjoyed a superb run since the beginning of the campaign with four Pro-Am 1 victories from six starts and two other podiums.Setting a very high standard at Brands Hatch, Donington Park and, most recently, a very wet and blustery Thruxton some five weeks ago, Ahmad is determined to continue the superb momentum at Oulton Park – a circuit regarded as perhaps the greatest driver challenge in the UK.“Time has really flown by since the last round”, he said, “I’ve enjoyed the break though as it was a very busy start to the season with three race meetings all close together and a lot of travelling, we needed the gap in the calendar to recharge our batteries a little bit.“I’ve always said Oulton Park is a track that has a special feel, unlike some others in the UK you can have a few seconds to breathe at certain points but it’s also very demanding and a real challenge. It’s a place where we always have exciting races in Porsche Carrera Cup GB.”The Oman Air, Oman Ministry of Sports Affairs, Oman Ministry of Tourism, Nawras, National Bank of Oman and Muscat Eye Laser Centre-supported driver always relishes the prospect of competing at Oulton’s 2.23-mile Island Circuit and has enjoyed great success there over the last couple of years.Achieving his maiden Pro-Am 1 pole position at the track during the Porsche Carrera Cup GB event last year, Ahmad went on to secure a double podium finish and also posted the fastest Pro-Am 1 lap during the first encounter. In 2010, his first year in the category, he also visited the Oulton podium.Up to now, the 2012 season has been the best yet of Ahmad’s sportscar racing career and he sees no reason at all why he shouldn’t be able to continue his rich form when the championship resumes this weekend.“We have to focus hard, keep the momentum going and try and do the best we can”, he added, “It’s been a fantastic start to the season, four wins and the championship lead after the first six races is an incredible feeling. We have to keep working incredibly hard but, if we do that, we can continue to push for the number one spot in the championship right to the end of the season.”Following pre-event practice on Friday, 8th June, qualifying for rounds seven and eight of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season will take place at 11.45 on Saturday, 9th June. Both races will be contested on Sunday, 10th June, with the first scheduled to begin at approximately 13.00 and the second at 16.25.Round seven is due to be screened live in the UK on ITV4 and ITV4 HD with the addition of online streaming at the itv.com/btcc  website. Round eight will also be shown live on the ITV website but will be screened on ITV4 later in the evening, starting at 20.00, due to a clash in the afternoon with the French Open tennis final at Roland Garros.
