Double Jubilation for Racetec Motorsport at Harewood Hillclimb

The Racetec Motorsport Team, sponsored by Bradford-based Thorite, the UK’s biggest distributor of pneumatic products and process systems, had a lot to celebrate during the Jubilee weekend.

The father and son team comprising Richard Vaughan, Thorite’s Marketing Manager and his son Matt, a 21 year old student of Motorsport management, who live in Wilsden near Bingley, both enjoyed great success:

Despite monsoon-like driving conditions Richard took his first class win of the season on Sunday at Harewood Hillclimb’s Jim Thomson Memorial Trophy Meeting. He led his Class all day (including practice) in his OMS single seater, apart from on the first timed run when his son Matt, in only his second event and first ever in the wet, took the lead for a short period.

Following a heart-stopping brush with the barriers at 80mph Richard really upped his game and finished the day with a winning best time of 70.62 seconds from Matt's second place 71.11. The next nearest competitor was third on 73.46. There were nine competitors in Class 5A (Single seaters up to 1100cc) so both Richard and Matt received trophies.

The Racetec Motorsport Team is backed by main sponsor Thorite, ably assisted by SIP compressors, FORCE industrial tools, Redashe hose reels and Chicago Pneumatic (CP) air tools.

SIP’s Managing Director, Paul Ippaso, joined the team for the day and thoroughly enjoyed the event despite the wet conditions. Richard’s Class win has helped move him up the scoreboard in the Northern Speed Championships, following his third in Class placing in last month’s opening round of the 2012 Sprint and Hillclimb season at Harewood.
