Trident GP2 Race 1 Valencia

The race held Sunday at the Valencia street course, in the 6th round of the 2012 GP2 Series, has been one of the toughest and most eventful in the championship's history. The action was neutralized three times with the safety-car due to three incidents that literally disrupted the 28 laps scheduled.

Trident Racing saw both cars complete the full distance. Julian Leal cruised to a 13th-position finish, while Stéphane Richelmi ended up in 15th place.

 Julian Leal, 13th

“I can't remember to have taken part in such an eventful race as today's one. In the first few laps I suffered from an heavy tire wear, so I asked the team to anticipate my pit-stop. After having put new tires on, I started to recover positions, but the race basically ended after a few laps. The safety-car went in three times and then the race was cut short due to the time limit. All in all, I'm happy to have avoided mistakes in a day where it was easy to get something wrong."

Stéphane Richelmi, 15th

“I didn't have a good start, and I made it to the first corner following the inside line. Another car shut the door and I had to brake in order to avoid making contact, which eventually happened. I started following the car of Valsecchi and I was keeping his pace, it felt so good that I opted for a later stop because of the pace we were putting together. Unfortunately, after the stop, when there were good chances to improve my position, the race was all but neutralized by the safety-car."
