Lotus 6 Hour race at Brands Hatch

Fox devoured in the Lyons Fenn

The John Danby Racing Go Green Motorsport Elise completed a strong season by adding the Lotus 6 Hour race to a string of Lotus Cup UK victories at Brands Hatch  (10th November). Fatherand- son pairing David and Rob Fenn were joined by GT and historic ace Michael Lyons, who staged a storming comeback in the final 90 minutes after a lighting issue cost the team time in the pits.

An early challenge by the Apex Tubulars outfit faded when Campbell Cassidy damaged the Europa, raced to a leading position by Chris Randall and Sean Edwards. Meanwhile Lotus Cup UK SuperSport champion Steve Train and Mark Fullalove suffered mechanical troubles late on in their 2-Eleven. The CAST team, with Clio Cup champion Jack Goff on board, and Hoffmans, with Michael and Will Schryver, plus Radical champion James Littlejohn on the driving strength, also featured strongly but were unable to offer consistent opposition.

Ultimately it was the Fox team, winners of the 2010 Lotus 1000km that came closest to the win, BJ Chong and Paul McNeilly sharing with Jamie Stanley this time. The latter was unable to resist Lyons attack, and although the pair clashed at Druids this only delayed the inevitable, and the margin of victory was nearly a lap of the Indy circuit. In third place was the Combat Laser Games team of Doug and Chris Setters, plus Radical racer and former Elise Trophy competitor Chris Headlam.

In the Elise Trophy class, 2011 Lotus Cup UK champion Steve Quick and Andrew Wright brought the Team ODRIC entry across the line ahead of Q-MECH, consisting of Craig Denman and Andy Sandford. Both squads had been close towards the end but a late safety car left a lap between them, ending the latters chances. 15 of the 22 starters were classified at the finish, with 352 laps recorded by the winner.
