DTM agrees promoter deal for 2014 race in China

The DTM, Germany's touring car championship, has signed an agreement with a local promoter to run a race in China next season.ITR, which runs the series, has agreed a deal with Brilliant Culture Group for the event, which will be staged either in Shanghai or Guangdong in the Autumn of 2014. The only other detail at this stage is the event will not be the last race of the season.It will be the DTM's third visit to China after it staged races in Shanghai in 2004 and 2010, both arranged in collaboration with Brilliant Culture Group, an events and promotional firm.The Chinese passenger car market is among the fastest growing in the world and therefore is very important for our manufacturers Audi, BMW and Mercedes-Benz. Moreover, we see the commitment and the passion with which our Chinese partners are pushing for this project and as a result, we feel very well in China," said Hans Werner Aufrecht, chairman of the board of ITR e.V."No matter what the decision about the venue will be: we will be racing in one of the biggest cities in the world."Maggie Ip, the chairman of Brilliant Culture Group, added: China is ready for DTMs return. We are now the largest car market in the world and the Chinese fans of Audi, BMW and Mercedes Benz are looking forward to seeing their favourite manufacturers race here again. DTM will no doubt help grow motorsports culture in China."Although the majority of its events are in Germany, the DTM's 2013 calendar has already featured races in the UK and Austria. The series is making its debut in Russia, at the Moscow Raceway, this weekend and will also race in the Netherlands later this year.
