WTCC: Two fifth places for Tiago Monteiro in Argentina

Tiago Monteiro finished in fifth place twice this weekend when he was competing in the Argentina leg of the FIA World Touring Car Championship, WTCC. On the Rio Hondo Termas circuit, Tiago's two 5th places allowed him to consolidate his fourth place in the championship, the best competitor not behind the wheel of a Citroen.

In front of packed grandstands, Tiago Monteiro was one of the major players in both of the Argentina races, making two excellent starts and delivering some great battles in the fight for a podium. Fifth and sixth on the starting grid, Tiago won several places in the early laps of racing to join in the fight for a finish on the rostrum. In the first race, a damaged damper also compromised his chances in the second and the Portuguese racer was unable to resist the power of the Citroen as it overtook him while he put pressure on teammate Gabriele Tarquini.

Leaving Argentina, the balance is still positive for the best representative from Honda. "It's good for the championship because we secured a lot of points," said Tiago. "That was our goal when we arrived in Argentina and we have completely fulfilled that because we could not have done better than fifth in either race. We are closing up on Citroën thanks to the enormous progress made by Honda, but they are still beyond our reach. We still need to improve the chassis and engine further. On such a wide circuit and with a long straight, it was hard to resist our rivals."

Advances that should be made by JAS Motorsport Honda make Tiago confident for the next round that will be held in China on the 4th and 5th of October.

"We will conduct tests that should allow us to take advantage of changes in the Honda Civic. We must continue to believe in it because we are clearly on the right track,"concluded Tiago.

Only four rounds remain in the 2014 championship and Tiago Monteiro is in 4th place in the championship with 146 points, 25 points ahead of his teammate, Grabriele Tarquini.
