Formula E: Virgin Racing Prepare to Race in Historic Berlin City Centre‏

Virgin Racing drivers Sam Bird and Jaime Alguersuari have arrived in Germany for the first ever Berlin ePrix

Virgin Racing drivers Sam Bird and Jaime Alguersuari are optimistic about each scoring double digit points in Berlin as the FIA Formula E series visits Germany for the first time.

Following the iconic Monaco ePrix, the Berlin leg will feature seventeen turns in just 2.469km, creating a testing circuit for the drivers with little opportunity to overtake. The location is just minutes outside of Berlin’s city centre and is the eighth leg in the championship’s inaugural season with the finale taking place in Virgin Racing’s home city of London on the 27th and 28th June. Entering this crucial stage of the season with just four races remaining, the Virgin Racing team are currently in third position on 82 points.

Speaking ahead of the eighth e-Prix:

Sam Bird, Virgin Racing driver said, “All of the Berlin ePrix track looks incredible. Although still a street circuit, the track is very unique in it’s layout and location so it will give fans a brilliant view of racing that is different to everything we have seen so far this series. Monaco was a great race for me personally but having narrowly missed out on a podium in Monte Carlo my aim for this race is to certainly finish in the top three."

Jaime Alguersuari, Virgin Racing driver, said, “I have been to Berlin many times before and I love it. There is a great atmosphere here that I am really looking forward to experiencing again. I have been on the simulator around the track and it looks crazy, which is just how I like a circuit. All of the turns are going to make it so exciting and there will be some great racing, for sure with drivers having to make the best of the overtaking opportunities and straights. I felt quick in Monaco and I was happy with the car, so hopefully we can be quick again in Berlin and get my first podium. There aren’t many better places to celebrate a good race than in Berlin!"

Alex Tai, Virgin Racing Team Principal, said, “As we approach the final stretch of the first ever Formula E season, it is incredible to think how far we have come in the series. We have had some fantastic races all over the world and as a team we are entering the last four races third in the Team Championship. We have not yet had a circuit like the Berlin ePrix track and I have no doubt that it is going to be a brilliant event. We were unfortunate in Monaco to have Jaime Alguesuari forced to retire from the race so soon, but Sam Bird did a great job to finish fourth and we want to see both drivers up the standings come 5pm Saturday evening."

The eighth FIA Formula E race will start at 4pm local time (3pm GMT+1) and will be broadcast live on ITV4.
