RECORD BREAKING MORRIS MAKING BIG WAVES IN ENDURANCE RACING DURING OUTSTANDING MAIDEN BRITISH GT SEASON
Qualifying dominance, race win and lap record underline star quality With three races to go series title well within grasp in maiden season
Highly rated MSA Team UK racing driver Seb Morris, one of British motorsport’s most exciting talents, is making a huge name for himself in endurance racing in only his first season of action in the British GT Championship – a campaign in which he is already re-writing the record books.
With just three races remaining in the 2016 season, 20-year-old Seb holds third position in the headline GT3 driver standings and is just 10.5 points shy of the top of the championship thanks to a superb year thus far with Team Parker Racing in the No.31 Bentley Continental GT3.
Most notably in his first season in endurance competition, the Welshman has been utterly dominant in qualifying. In every session he has contested, the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC) Rising Star has set the standard with searing pace.
His record-breaking run includes pole position at Brands Hatch Grand Prix Circuit, Oulton Park International Circuit, Silverstone Grand Prix Circuit and, most recently, Spa-Francorchamps in Belgium – an unprecedented hit rate in the GT3 era.
The only exception was at Rockingham in May when Seb wasn’t able to contest the qualifying session as a result of a heavy excursion for team-mate Rick Parfitt Jnr in the preceding practice, which resulted in large-scale damage to the Bentley.
Seb’s qualification dominance has also helped the former McLaren Autosport BRDC Award finalist lead the way in the prestigious Sunoco Whelen Challenge, a ranking system which compares driver performance from a number of championships.
Carrying a fully-funded prize drive in the 2017 Rolex 24 Hour race at Daytona in America, following the most recent British GT event at Spa the Marford driver increased his advantage to over 10 points thanks to his fourth pole from four attempts and second position in the race.
In addition to his qualifying successes, Seb has climbed the British GT podium on four occasions so far this year with the highlight a wonderful maiden victory at Oulton Park, where he also shattered the International Circuit lap record for GT3.
“I’ve thoroughly enjoyed every minute of my first season in British GT and to be so competitive from the outset has been fantastic”, he reflected, “We always wanted to be as competitive as possible, to showcase what I can do, but to have such a run in qualifying with so many poles has been incredible.
“My aim is to achieve as much as I can in GT and endurance racing and to work as hard as possible to put myself in the frame to become a factory driver. It’s been an amazing start to that journey, I’m still learning every time I go out in the car but I’m very happy with my performances this far.”
Seb’s next race outing, rounds seven and eight of the British GT season at Snetterton 300 Circuit in Norfolk, will take place over the weekend 6th/7th August.
