Seb Morris aiming for title in British GT decider at Donington

Seb Morris says he is going all out for silverware during the eagerly awaited British GT Championship decider at Donington Park Grand Prix Circuit this coming Sunday, 11th September, where he and team-mate Rick Parfitt Jnr are one of just three pairings in with a chance of lifting the coveted title.

Excelling in his maiden season of GT racing at the wheel of the No.31 Bentley Continental GT3, the 20-year-old MSA Team UK driver goes into the ninth race of the season - which will be broadcast live on Motors TV - third in the standings with Parfitt Jnr, the duo 27 points shy of the series lead.

With 37.5 points available for the winners during the two-hour contest at the Leicestershire venue, the ‘home’ track for his Team Parker Racing squad, a memorable championship win is still possible for Welsh racer Seb.

Whatever the outcome on Sunday afternoon, though, he is already more than satisfied with his first year of racing in endurance competition where he has undoubtedly been one of British GT’s most consistent star performers.

“I’m really looking forward to the last round”, commented the rapid Marford driver, “Rick and I are both in a good place and aiming to do the best we possibly can – plus we think the BOP [Balance of Performance] will be sorted so it should be a good battle.

“We are contenders for the championship but there’s no real pressure on us, so we can go out and do our thing. The Bentley suits the track, we’ve done a lot of testing there, so hopefully we can get some more silverware.”

Ahead of the Donington Park encounter this weekend, Seb has one race win to his credit with four other podiums from the eight races contested thus far with success coming in longer format races, such as this coming weekend’s two-hour contest, and shorter 60-minute encounters.

Hugely competitive throughout the season to date, one of the most striking aspects of the campaign has been the British Racing Drivers’ Club Rising Star’s scintillating speed in qualifying which enabled him to re-write the British GT record books.

Securing pole positions at Brands Hatch GP Circuit, Oulton Park, Silverstone and Spa-Francorchamps, Seb chalked-up an unprecedented hit rate in the GT3 era and his searing pace also enabled him to post a brand new lap record at Oulton Park’s International Circuit.

In addition to the outright British GT Championship title being up for grabs at Donington, Seb will also be battling for more points in the Sunoco Whelen Challenge – a competition grading driver performance across a variety of categories – which he currently leads.

Opening practice for the season finale will get underway at 09.40 on Saturday, 10th September, with the second session following at 12.20 ahead of qualifying at 16.00. On Sunday, 11th September, the morning warm-up will commence at 09.35 with the race itself beginning at 13.00 and broadcast live on Motors TV.
