Dismasting for Sam Goodchild on board Narcos: Mexico
British skipper, Sam Goodchild has dismasted overnight whilst racing in third place in the Class40 on Narcos: Mexico.

The 28 year old sailor was sailing in around 30kts of southwesterly wind and big seas and had just moved into third place in the 53-strong division when the mast broke at around 0430 CET (0330 UTC).  He is uninjured and has secured his boat but will wait until daylight to make a more comprehensive evaluation of the damage. He reported to Race Direction that he will make his way to Brest, some 300 nautical miles to the east.

The hugely experienced British solo racer was racing in his first Route du Rhum-Destination Guadeloupe and had made a solid start. More details to follow later.

The Brittany Ferries 24-Hour Trophy has been awarded to skippers who achieved the greatest distance in each class during the first day at sea - winners are Gabart, Roucayrol, Thomson, Berry, Gavignet and Antoine.
