The Lister Storm LMP1 Hybrid was on track again two weeksago, firstly at the Monza RPMe Show followed one weeklater by the Vallelunga 6 Hour Gold Cup race.
The front end aerodynamics have been re-designed since theLMES Silverstone race in August – and the car wasspectacular at Vallelunga.
For the second year running Stefano Zonca drove the LMP,this year sharing with his 2005 Italian GT partner –Stefano Bellichi. The track has been extended with anew loop since last year so direct comparisons betweenthe LMP900 and this years’ LMP1 Hybrid are notpossible. However the new car is faster on the straightand is developing more g-force in the fast corners – itwas ‘perfect’ to drive.
Andrea Bellichi, in his first drive in a prototype, qualified theLMP on pole. Zonca was in the car for the start of therace but had a problem getting off the line on the warmuplap so ended up starting from the back – however, after just half an hour, he was in the lead and by the endof the first hour the Storm was already a lap ahead of thesecond placed car.
The race then proceeded according to plan – Bellichi narrowlyavoiding a spinning Viper during the 5th hour but disasterstruck with just ½ an hour to go – a rear driveshaft failedand the car came to a halt on the track.
However the lead was enough to ensure that Zonca, Bellichiand the Storm LMP were classified 2nd overall.
