Wilson launches social media trading card: IZOD IndyCar Series driver Justin Wilson has formed a partnership with Meet-Meme.com, a Milwaukee-based social media trading card company, which will provide the Dale Coyne Racing driver with a range of social media services, including a custom-designed QR code allowing fans to quickly follow him across all of his social media platforms."We are excited to partner with Justin to provide him with his own personal scan code and digital dashboard," said Jonathan Brewer, director of awesome at Meet-Meme. Event promoter Andretti Sports Marketing invited 26 social media influencers from the Milwaukee area to the Milwaukee Mile and paired each one with an IZOD IndyCar Series driver. Brewer was a guest of Wilson, driver of the #18 Sonny's BBQ Honda, and became his social media shadow for the weekend. Pagenaud assists teens with driving skills: The Key to Safe Driving Program at Dublin (Ohio) High School had Simon Pagenaud's unwavering attention. There's always something to be learned.Pagenaud was a guest instructor during the July 27 program, which included instruction in the physics and dynamics of driving, defensive driving and responsible behavior, wet-braking, emergency lane changes and collision-avoidance, slalom and weight-transfer maneuvers, and adverse weather conditions."Defensive driving skills are important for every driver, especially beginning teen drivers," said Pagenaud, who a day earlier was on the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in the No. 77 Schmidt Hamilton HP car in preparation for the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio this weekend.The class was taught by professional driving instructors from the Mid-Ohio School, which has offered performance driving and defensive driving programs for adults and teenagers since 1993. The Key to Safe Teen Driving Program was established in 2009 by KeyBank, with the overall goal of improving the driving skills of teen drivers and raising awareness about the need for better training of young drivers.The program this summer encompasses 24 sessions in 14 cities in five states.3. GoPro to sponsor Sonoma event: GoPro has been named title sponsor of the IZOD IndyCar Series race at the raceway in Sonoma, Calif.The GoPro Indy Grand Prix of Sonoma will be held Aug. 24-26.The three-year agreement with the raceway is a perfect extension of the GoPro business model. GoPro, whose headquarters is in the San Francisco Bay area, is the official camera of the 2012 Global RallyCross Championship, as well a sponsor of JR Hildebrand, driver of the No. 4 National Guard Panther Racing car in the IZOD IndyCar Series. The company, which sells products in more than 140 countries, is heavily engaged in the action-sports industry."GoPro is a dynamic young company with a foot in some of the most exciting sports and entertainment entities in the world," Sonoma Raceway president and general manager Steve Page said. Drivers spend off weekend in endurance events: IZOD IndyCar Series driver Sebastien Bourdais teamed with Alex Popow to win the inaugural Brickyard Grand Prix GRAND-AM Rolex Sports Car Series race at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.Bourdais took the checkered flag under caution in the No. 2 Soloson Daytona Prototype fielded by Starworks Motorsport in the three-hour race on the 13-turn, 2.534-mile course. Bourdais took the lead for good on Lap 74 of the three-hour race, which ended after 91 laps. He dove under Ryan Dalziel entering Turn 1 for the decisive move. There were three caution periods after Bourdais took the lead, but he was able to pull away on restarts each time.Target Chip Ganassi Racing's Scott Dixon teamed with 2000 Indianapolis 500 winner Juan Pablo Montoya to finish fourth in the No. 02 car."It was a pretty special day," said Bourdais, who a day earlier drove the No. 7 TrueCar Dragon Racing car in testing at the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in preparation for the Aug. 3-5 Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio. "I felt strong in the car. It was win No. 1 for me this season. I've been winning a race ever year for many, many years, and I was starting to get worried. It's great to put it together."Bourdais wasn't the only Frenchman with INDYCAR ties racing a sportscar over the weekend.Firestone Indy Lights driver Tristan Vautier finished 10th overall and fifth in class at the 24 hour endurance race at Spa-Franchorchamps in Belgium.Vautier, the leading rookie in Firestone Indy Lights, co-drove a Ferrari 458 with Formula One race winner Olivier Panis (Vautier's new manager), Eric Debard and former Manchester United and French goalkeeper now racer Fabien Barthez for Team Sofrev-ASP."The car ran 24 hours with only one tire puncture," Vautier wrote on his Facebook site. "Got to drive in the rain during the night, which was crazy! A big congrats to all the mechanics for perfect pit stops and the engineers for the strategy, Team Sofrev-ASP was incredible!"***The 2012 IZOD IndyCar Series race continues with the Honda Indy 200 at Mid-Ohio on Aug. 5 at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course. The race will be televised by ABC at 12:30 p.m. (ET) and broadcast by the IMS Radio Network on SiriusXM (XM 94 and Sirius 212). The next Firestone Indy Lights race is the Grand Prix of Trois Rivieres on Aug. 5 on the Streets of Trois Rivieres, Quebec.
