In difficult circumstances, British racing driver Jack Aitken brought home a valuable points haul from round two of the Formula Renault NEC at the Nrburgring in Germany. With 41 points on the Championship table he now closes in on the top ten in the highly competitive European series.
The 17-year-old from west London arrived late to the spiritual home of German motorsport due to school commitments. This meant that Jack was plunged straight in to qualifying without the benefit of Friday practice. However, he was still able to set a time of 1:58.371 seconds which left him in 20th position overall on his first outing on the Grand Prix track.
Race one was a hard fought contest on Sunday morning with Jack taking the fight to the 35-car strong field and the chequered flag in an impressive 8th place after passing 12 rivals. His race pace was good and Jack posted the third fastest time of the race.
In Race two Jack again showed his mettle and developing tactical race craft. Starting from 22nd on the grid he drove a solid race to make up 13 places, ending the race in 9th position.
Jack commented, I think that the weekend went well. It feels really good to get solid points from the Nrburgring, especially on my first visit to the track. I am very much looking forward to my home race at Silverstone.
The third round of Formula Renault 2.0 NEC takes place at the Silverstone Circuit, UK on 2nd June 2013.
