(SPEEDWAY 1 – MONDAY REVIEW)

COVENTRY have gone four points clear at the top of the Elite League table thanks to a 51-39 win at Belle Vue – to maintain a 100 per cent record from three away matches. The Bees, who had already won at Leicester and Poole this season, raced into an early ten-point lead and then negated a Scott Nicholls tactical ride to give them full control of the meeting.Elite Draft reserve Jason Garrity scored a 12-point maximum with Chris Harris (11+1) and Hans Andersen (10+1) also in the major points, whilst Nicholls picked up ten for the Aces.Coventry manager Gary Havelock said “We talk a lot about the different aspects of the sport, and the psychology of it, and without giving too much away we knew we’d won here twice last year, and having kept the majority of that team I always knew we’d be in with a chance.“I said to the boys that if we could start well, as we did at Poole and Leicester, it makes a massive difference not to have to play catch-up all the time, and when the home team are calling for black-and-white so early, you know you’re doing something right. We’re making quite a habit of these away wins, and long may it continue as far as I’m concerned!”Belle Vue manager Mark Lemon said: “Tonight wasn’t our finest moment but you have to give full credit to Coventry. They were pumped up, they had a strong game plan and, unfortunately for us, had a very good night’s work.“I’m not prepared to let the guys throw in the towel after only two weeks of racing though, and I can’t say I’m worried when it’s still so early on in the season.”Meanwhile Wolverhampton made it two home wins out of two with a 52-38 victory over Lakeside at Monmore Green. The scores were level after six races but from Heat 7 onwards, it was the hosts who would go on to provide the final nine race winners to help guide them to an impressive 14 point victory.American Ricky Wells dropped just one point to an opponent as he totalled 12+2, whilst reserve Lewis Blackbird notched 11+1 with a classy display.Wolves manager Peter Adams said: “Tonight was almost a re-run of the Belle Vue meeting where we got off to a fairly slow start but fought back mid-meeting and went on to get a fully deserved win.“We take the positives out of tonight which will take us into two searching examinations against Lakeside away and Coventry back here next Monday.”

SHEFFIELD have moved quickly to agree terms with Jason Garrity to ease their injury crisis.Garrity comes in as cover for David Bellego and is hoping to make his debut on Thursday against Somerset at Owlerton – subject to the new line-up gaining the necessary approval from the sport’s management committee.Tigers co-promoter Damien Bates said: “The reason why we have moved so quickly is because it would be unfair on the team, and everyone else at the club, to carry the pressure of a guest and rider replacement.“When I called Jason it took two minutes to agree everything, he’s jumped at the chance to ride for us and I think he will be a real crowd pleaser. I’m not putting any pressure on him, I’m just telling him to go out there and give it his best for us and score as many points as he can.”
