COYS back at The Ring

COYS put forward an exciting collection of sports, sports touring, competition and Grand prix cars for their auction that supported this years AVD Old Timer Grand Prix at the Nurburgring in Germany on Saturday August 9th.

Some 70 cars went under the hammer. COYS went back to Nurburgring last year after a gap of 15 years and promised to return again this year.

Chris Routledge said: “ We returned last year and had a fantastic sale. This year was just as good with and we will be back again next year.

There was intense interest in lot 127 the 1960 ex works team, Lotus 18 2.5 Litre Formula One Grand Prix winning racing car, which had been driven by Jim Clark and Innes Ireland. The car failed to sell at the auction but is now under offer for €180,000.

Highlights of the sale were: Lot number 128, a 1935 Bentley 3½ Litre Low Door Vanden Plas Tourer which sold for €184,253. The car was delivered new to acclaimed Hollywood actor Robert Montgomery, who in the same year became President of the Screen Actors Guild, the American labour union representing the film and television industries. Montgomery was considered to be one of the best dressed men in Hollywood, even refusing to carry a wallet because he claimed it spoiled the cut of his suits.

A 1973 Porsche 911 Carrera 2.7 RS Touring, Lot number 115, which had just three owners and a recorded mileage of 126,000 kilometers sold for €173,063.

Lot number 125 a 1953 Arnolt Bristol sold for €131,660 while a 1936 Mercedes Benz 230B cabriolet, Lot number 133, which had received a ground up restoration sold for €146,207.

A 1938 BMW 327, Lot Number 167 which also had received a ground up restoration sold for €145,008. While a 1937 Lagonda LG45 Open Tourer, lot number 122, which had been in a German collection sold for €101.447

Chris Routledge added “As usual it was fantastic to be back at the Nurburgring. We were the first company to run auctions at the track in the 1980’s. It was at this famous European racetrack that the shape and presentation of modern car auctions was pioneered by COYS.”
