Unique Chevron returns to racing in Masters Zandvoort sports car race

The only left-hand drive Chevron B8 ever built for racing is set to return to the tracks this weekend in the Zandvoort rounds of WSM, promoted by Masters Historic Racing. The 1967-built Chevron B8, powered by a 2-litre BMW engine, was bought by Nikolaus Killenberg and raced in major sports car races of the period, including the 1000 kilometre races at Monza and the Nrburgring, before the car was crashed by Killenberg in 1970. The damaged car was bought by Kees Kwinkelenbergs who rebuilt the car and raced it in the Dutch Sportscar Championship until 1974 when the car was stored in Kwinkelenbergs attic at his business premises! After spending almost 27 years in storage, the car was bought by experienced Dutch racer Leo Kemmer who rebuilt the Chevron and ran it on track for the first time in 2011 when a then-83-year-old Kwinkelenbergs was reunited with the carand did some lapsfor the first time since the early 1970s!Kemmer will race the B8 for the first time this weekend and is looking for victory on home soil. It is a great honour to own this car, he said. It is a very famous car in Holland and has attracted a lot of attention. It is in its original colours and I cant wait to race it. I want to do some more Masters races after this weekend and come to the UK later in the season.Masters Event Manager Rachel Bailey said: We are delighted to have such an important car in Dutch racing making its racing return with Masters this weekend. To see the car in period colours and back on the track is just what historic racing is all about.
