Alex Lynn will join the McLaren Hypercar Team from the end of the 2026 WEC season
McLaren Racing has announced Britain’s Alex Lynn as the fourth driver to join its highly anticipated McLaren Hypercar Team lineup for the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) and 24 Hours of Le Mans.
The 33-year-old will join fellow WEC standouts Mikkel Jensen and Laurens Vanthoor once he has rounded out his current WEC programme with Cadillac Hertz Team Jota.
Lynn is one of Britain’s most accomplished and versatile racing drivers, with a career spanning single-seaters – including race-winning success in the FIA Formula E World Championship and roles as a Formula 1 test and development driver – and top-level endurance racing. His career highlights include winning the Macau Grand Prix in 2013, the GP3 Series title in 2014 and the 12 Hours of Sebring in both 2017 and 2022, as well as victory in the LMGTE Pro class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2020 and the European Le Mans Series LMP2 championship in 2023.
A highly experienced WEC competitor across LMGTE Pro, LMP2 and Hypercar machinery, Lynn has established himself at the forefront of global endurance racing. He is not only a WEC Hypercar race-winner but took outright pole position for the 2025 24 Hours of Le Mans thanks to an outstanding lap of the Circuit de la Sarthe.
Alex Lynn, McLaren Hypercar Driver said:
“As a British driver is there any bigger honour than being a McLaren Racing driver? I don’t think so. It’s a team name that I am incredibly proud to wear on my chest and I take great pride and responsibility in representing. I don’t underestimate the challenge ahead – I know from experience that WEC and Le Mans are incredibly tough to win and are more competitive today than ever before – but I can already see that Zak [Brown], James [Barclay] and the McLaren Hypercar Team are laying the foundations of a what could be a championship-winning team. I couldn’t be more driven towards winning a world title and taking victory at Le Mans for the most iconic racing brand in the world.”
James Barclay, Team Principal McLaren Hypercar Team, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Alex to the McLaren Hypercar Team. He is a proven winner with extensive experience at the highest level of endurance racing, and his speed, technical understanding and knowledge of the FIA World Endurance Championship will be a real asset to our programme. Alex has consistently demonstrated his ability on the biggest stages, including at Le Mans, and his signing adds further strength and depth to an already exciting driver line-up as we prepare for our return to the pinnacle of sports car racing.”
